Bulgari Gold and Steel Spiga Wrap Ring

A vintage and quite rare Bulgari Spiga triple wrap ring, finished in Bulgari's signature combination of stainless steel and 18 karat yellow gold. The ring features a high polish finish, but because of the gray tone of the stainless steel, retains a somewhat subdued appearance. The Spiga collection followed quickly on the heels of Bulgari's highly acclaimed Parentesi collection and shares many of that collections signature elements. This particular example is a size 6.50.

The Parentesi design was inspired by parentheses in math equations. The design team at Bulgari realized that by repeating links of a few different shapes and materials and joining these together with other elements, a practically endless repertoire of designs would be opened. By the time Bulgari ceased production of this all-time great design, Parentesi had been made using different colors of gold, steel, and all manner of precious and semi-precious stones in rings, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. In this way, Parentesi, like the Love or Juste Un Clou collections from Cartier, or the Alhambra collection from Van Cleef & Arpels, made its way into the growing world of “day-to-night" jewelry, created for a rapidly modernizing client who did not have the time or the patience to change jewelry between daytime activities and dinner. All of the major houses responded to this phenomenon in their own ways, but it is our opinion  that Bulgari did so with particular flair.
