Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. Large Bean Necklace

A lovely vintage Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. large “Bean” pendant necklace rendered in 925 sterling silver on a 16 inch silver chain.

The “Bean” design was first drawn into existence by Elsa Peretti in 1974, when she would have been an anxious new designer at the house, fresh out of a career in modeling, looking to make her mark in the design department. Peretti looked at the organic, sinuous shape of a bean and saw more than a seed; she saw the bean as a symbol of the origins and precious nature of life itself. Now, more than fifty years after the introduction of this seminal design, we remember Elsa Peretti for her dynamism, her elegant simplicity, and her disregard for the rules of traditional jewelry making. Peretti died at the age of 80 in 2021, and Tiffany & Co. subsequently relaunched the Bean collection in 2022 in tribute to her genius.
