A rare and highly coveted pair of 18 karat gold, mabe pearl, and diamond ear clips by Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co. The ear clips each center a large mabe pearl, encircled romantically in spirals of roped gold, each of these ropes set at random with brilliant diamonds.

Jean Schlumberger, one of the most famous jewelry designers of the 20th century, was a Frenchman living in New York, and got his big break with the financially limitless patronage of Rachel (Bunny) Lambert Mellon after his start designing costume jewelry for Schiaparelli and others. For Mrs. Mellon, the ultimate arbiter of art and good taste in the 20th century, Schlumberger designed some of his most famous pieces, including the "Breath of Spring" necklace and the jellyfish moonstone brooch. Jewelry aficionados will also know him for the "Bird On a Rock" which Tiffany & Co. still proudly produces today, in addition to his enamel and gem-set bangles made famous by Jackie Kennedy & Mrs. Mellon.
